California residents do their part in water conservation

(Last Updated On: July 7, 2015)

The thought of not having enough water for common, everyday tasks has motivated California residents to follow the state mandated water cutbacks. This motivation has been confirmed by a recent report released by the State Water Resources Control Board. According to LATimes.com, urban residents cut water consumption by almost 29% in the month of May. That’s over twice as much savings from May 2013 which was just below 14%. That’s also above the mandated 25% cutback put in place by Governor Brown.

These numbers have many experts both surprised and very encouraged. For a state that relies so heavily on tourism, leisure and outdoor activities, water usage is almost always taken for granted. But, after a fourth year of this historic drought, the state has rallied together to conserve water usage at a very promising rate. Some counties have doubled and tripled their average water savings. One county in particular, increased from 3 percent savings to 18 percent.

Across the state, the numbers are staggering with increased savings. However, there’s a cautious optimism for the final numbers with the month of June. This is when the heat wave came with summer and an increase usage of water and water activities.

As for now, Californians need to give themselves a pat on the back and continue this tremendous effort of water cutbacks.
