Lake Tahoe is America’s most popular summer lake

(Last Updated On: July 23, 2015)

Summertime is the perfect opportunity for families and travelers to get out and experience America’s most beautiful lakes. From fishing and swimming to boating and jet skiing, lakes provide the ideal setting for summer getaways. In America, it appears that most of these popular summer lakes reside in California. According to Yahoo! Travel,  California had four of the Top 10 summer lakes in America. And, it shouldn’t surprise anyone who’s actually been there, that Lake Tahoe is number one on the list.

Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful places in all of America. Along with Yosemite, it’s my favorite place to visit. Tahoe has so many wonderful opportunities for both outdoor and indoor fun. No matter what your preference is, the night life or daytime adventures, you can find it in Lake Tahoe.

In addition to Tahoe, California’s Big Bear Lake, Lake Shasta and Lake Havasu are also in the Top 10.

It is kind of surprising that California registered four lakes on this list considering that the state is in its fourth year of a historic drought. Every lake, reservoir and river are at record low levels. But, apparently, that hasn’t stopped travelers and lake lovers from wanting to visit these places.

Yahoo! Travel compiled this list based on the volume of travel searches through their website. So, without further delay, here’s Yahoo!’s list:

  1. Lake Tahoe – California/Nevada
  2. Lake Champlain – Vermont/New York
  3. Big Bear Lake – California
  4. Lake Havasu – Arizona/California
  5. Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri
  6. Lake Shasta – California
  7. Lake Powell – Utah/Arizona
  8. Caddo Lake – Louisiana/Texas
  9. Table Rock Lake – Missouri
  10. Crater Lake – Oregon
