Over the last week, industry insiders predicted that a record number of travelers would take to the skies during this summer season. It appears that the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) may be one of the airports experiencing the brunt of this summer influx. According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, LAX is predicting a record shattering 24.6 million passengers to pass through the airport this summer.
This is up 6.7% from 2014 when 23 million passengers used the airport. Monday, July 27, is expected to be the busiest day with a projected single day record of 245,000 travelers passing through LAX.
LAX is the 5th busiest airport in the world, and the second busiest in America behind Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Nearly 70 million travelers pass through LAX each year. That number will surely rise if the summer projections hold true. This could catapult LAX to the 4th busiest airport in the world ahead of Tokyo’s Haneda Airport which had 73 million travelers in 2014.
