On Tuesday night, over a dozen great white sharks were spotted feeding in the waters off Sunset Beach. According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, a Huntington Beach Police helicopter spotted these sharks about 50 yards from shore. At the time, there were no beachgoers in the water.
Local authorities and lifeguard units are keeping an eye out for these sharks and any others. As of now, there are no swim advisories or warnings posted for Sunset Beach.
These 13 sharks were considered young and ranged between 6 to 10 feet in length. There have been recent sightings of sharks over the last few months but none with this many great whites at one time.
Last week, six great white sharks were spotted off the coast in Orange County. The Sheriff department dropped a GoPro camera into the water to capture footage of these sharks. Currently, there’s no reported video footage of the thirteen great whites spotted near Sunset Beach.
