On Memorial Day, May 25, the Palm Springs Air Museum will host its 18th annual Air Fair and Flower Drop event. This special occasion features family activities, many classic planes and flight exhibitions. However, it’s probably best known for the dropping of 3,000 carnations in honor of all of the soldiers who lost their lives while defending this great nation.
The event takes place at the Palm Springs Air Museum with tickets costing between $9 and $16 dollars per person. Family rates are available. The first activity will begin at 10am with flight exhibitions. Some of the planes featured are: T-28, P-51, P-63 and the PT-17.
At 1pm, a B-25 bomber will drop the carnations over the museum’s tarmac. The white carnations honor those who fought in historic wars like WWII and the red carnations honor those who fought during modern battles like the Persian Gulf. 27 local families who lost loved ones during these wars will also be honored.
Throughout the day there will be food vendors, beer tents, PT-17 rides, music by Heatwave Jazz Band, history re-enactments, kids’ activities, tours of the museum and more.
The event is located at 45 North Gene Autry TrailPalm Springs, CA. Check out the museum’s official website for more information.
